Never been so happy to be misdiagnosed!

Made it to Phuket! Got picked up from my hostel at 10am in a minivan, then dropped off at a central office in Krabi. I waited around a bit before getting on another mini van with other people bound for Phuket. We had a tiny hiccup as one guy realized he forget his bag at the central office and we had to turn around for it!

It was about a 4 hr drive to Phuket, and we stopped at Patong first, where everyone else in my mini van departed. I was the only one headed to Karon, which is a more quieter and less of a party area of Phuket. As we came over the hill separating Patong from Karon, I saw a nice stretch of beach with less people than Patong, and I was so happy to spend my week here! I got dropped off right at the edge of Karon and had to walk about 20 mins down the main road to my hostel.

I looooved my hostel as soon as I stepped into it, everything was clean and new and the common area was full of couches, bean bag chairs, and a huge TV. It was so cozy and felt like someone’s living room! I checked in and was on a mission -- find this clinic I read about online before it closed. I got to the clinic and it was packed with locals (a good sign! If locals go there, it must be good!). I waited about 15 mins until it was my turn. The doctor was nice and spoke extremely well english. I started to explain my ear problems and showed him the antibiotics that the doctor in Malaysia gave me, and he asked about the pain I have been having. I explained that I have zero pain, just can’t fully hear out of it, which he looked puzzled and then looked inside my ear with his instrument. It’s as a light bulb went off, he quickly looked in my other ear, deemed it normal, and then went in the back for some stuff. He came back with a tray and syringe and told me to sit still, inserted the syringe into my ear, expelled some liquid into it, and suddenly I could hear! He explained it wasn’t an ear infection at all, just impacted ear wax! I was so relieved it was fix, and kind of annoyed the other doctor had misdiagnosed me and made me walk around with poor hearing for a week for no reason!

Immediately I had thought about the Similan Islands trip leaving tomorrow and how now I could go! I got out of the office and quickly rushed back to the hostel to email them. It was almost 6pm so I was doubtful that I could get on the trip this last minute, but decided to try anyways. Someone emailed me back about half hour later and said they would call and see if it was possible. After some anxious waiting and prompt emailing - I was signed up for the trip!! I immediately paid my deposit and got ready for it. I was so excited that I would get to be apart of it!!
